Alarko Holding's Headquarters in Ortaköy Becomes Carbon Neutral


In its 70th year, Alarko Holding has taken its approach to sustainability one step further and added a new one to its exemplary practices at both the national and international level. Alarko Holding is now offsetting the direct and indirect carbon footprint of its headquarters located in Ortaköy, one of Istanbul's iconic buildings, through International Green Energy (I-REC) Certificate and by purchasing Wind Energy-based Gold Carbon Credits, which further strengthens its commitment to the planet.

Alarko Group of Companies, which celebrates its 70th anniversary this year, is carrying out many different projects at the same time with its group companies to reach net zero emissions by 2050. Alarko prioritizes energy and resource efficiency and the use of renewable energy in all its facilities and has added a new one to its decisive steps toward transition to a low-carbon economy. Holding aims to offset the carbon footprint of its headquarters campus through the Gold Carbon and Green Energy - IREC certificate based on renewable energy every year from now on. 

Alarko Holding prioritizes responsible investments for a sustainable planet

Alarko Holding makes all its new investments with a focus on sustainability to demonstrate its strong commitment to its environmental and social responsibilities. Supporting the low-carbon economy with innovative technologies, R&D investments, and circular business models that prioritize harmony with nature, the Holding is taking decisive steps to transform its current operations with a focus on economy, people, technology, and planet.  Alarko recently became the first holding company in Turkey to publish a Responsible Communications Policy, committing to consider environmental and social impacts in its brand communications. Alarko plans all its steps in this direction with the aim of making an effective contribution to the UN Global Compact Principles, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and the Women's Empowerment Principles (WEPs). 

Alarko Agriculture Group aims to become one of the leading global investors in modern greenhouse agriculture for sustainability and safe food

Alarko entered the agriculture sector in 2023 to contribute to a healthy and reliable food supply and harnesses the sustainable power of geothermal energy in its modern greenhouses. In order to preserve the natural cycle, the geothermal water used is reinjected into the underground reserves without coming into contact with the surface. Zero pesticide products produced with state-of-the-art smart agricultural practices are both sold in the domestic market and exported to foreign markets. 

Alarko Agriculture Group aims to be in every segment of agriculture, and Turkey's first and Europe's largest hybrid microgranular fertilizer plant in Çankırı uses 65% less energy and 70% less water, while its 1200 kWp capacity solar energy system covers 35% of its energy consumption. 

Alarko brings energy-storing technology to the country

Alarko Energy Group is committed to making a maximum contribution to the transition to a low-carbon economy through investments in renewable energy sources and energy storage systems. Its goal is to increase its renewable energy capacity by a factor of 3.5 over the next 5 years, from its current installed capacity of 140 MW to a total of 640 MW.

This year, Alarko has started a partnership with Gotion Group, a leading global technology and battery manufacturer, to establish an energy storage systems and lithium-ion battery production line in Türkiye. Alarko's investment includes technology transfer, the establishment of an R&D center in Turkey, and exports abroad. 

Alarko Carrier inspires the sector with its sustainable practices

Alarko Industry and Trade Group adopts sustainability as a fundamental strategy in its production processes. It is aimed to generate 500,000 kWh of electricity annually with the solar energy system installed on the roof of Alarko Carrier Eskişehir Factory. The reclaimed water system installed in the plant's combi-boiler production line minimizes the amount of wastewater.  

Alarko Industry and Trade Group contributes significantly to the climate change mitigation with Alarko branded photovoltaic panels, which it included in its product range in the last quarter of 2023.  

Fethiye Hillside Beach Club takes a leading role in sustainable tourism

Hillside Beach Club, which is named the best in Europe in the Haute Grandeur "Best Eco-Friendly Resort" category for its advanced sustainability practices, plants a tree seed for each new guest. The resort has planted more than 305,000 tree seeds since 2003 and holds ISO 50001 Energy Management System and ISO 14001 Environmental Management System certificates. Hillside monitors its greenhouse gas emissions according to the ISO 14064 standard and supports the use of green energy with I-REC certification. The resort has a zero-waste policy and has been awarded the Travelife Gold certificate, which recognizes hotels that minimize water consumption and manage resources effectively. 

Hillside Beach Club is also developing a terrestrial and marine biodiversity inventory to identify the flora and fauna in its periphery. Hillside sets an example in the tourism sector with its service philosophy that supports social and ecological sustainability by supporting local products and suppliers and combining cultural activities with tourism.
