Europe's Largest Micro Granule Fertilizer Factory from Alarko Agriculture Group
Europe's Largest Micro Granule Fertilizer Factory from Alarko Agriculture Group
• Palmira Agro, operating under the Alarko Agriculture Group, has launched Turkey's first hybrid micro granule fertilizer factory. With an investment of 20 million dollars, the facility will be Europe’s largest next-generation micro granule fertilizer production plant.
• The new-generation micro granule factory, which covers an area of 8,300 square meters and utilizes the world's first hybrid production technology, aims to produce 12,000 tons of micro granule fertilizer annually, with a goal of exporting 30% of its production.
• Micro granule fertilizers, which are a type of starter fertilizer, help seeds, seedlings, and saplings get a stronger start in life. These fertilizers can reduce traditional fertilizer usage by up to 10 times per acre, thus significantly lowering transportation, storage, labor, fuel, and time costs, and decreasing production costs by up to 10 times.
• The eco-friendly hybrid CE-certified technologies employed in the facility reduce energy consumption by 65% and water usage by 70%. A 1,200 kWp solar energy system meets 35% of the factory's energy needs. The factory also contributes meaningfully to Alarko Holding's 2050 Net-Zero emissions target by reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 65%.
Focusing on sustainable development in its new investments, Alarko Holding made a swift entry into the agricultural sector in 2023. With plans to invest over 1 billion dollars in modern greenhouses, fertilizer, seed, and food sectors by 2028, Alarko Agriculture Group aims to become one of the world's top 10 agricultural companies. Building on its success with the Alsera company, which became Turkey’s largest modern greenhouse operator within just one year, Alarko Agriculture Group has now added another significant step to its efforts to advance Turkey in modern agriculture with Palmira Agro’s next-generation, innovative micro granule fertilizer factory in Çankırı Yakınkent Organized Industrial Zone, a $20 million investment. The factory, which is the first of its kind in terms of production technology in Turkey, will be the largest production facility of its kind in Europe.
While Alarko Agriculture Group continues its greenhouse investments in Turkey and Kazakhstan, the new next-generation micro granule fertilizer factory, which covers an area of 8,300 square meters and is equipped with the world’s first hybrid production technology, starts its operations with an annual production target of 12,000 tons of micro granule fertilizer and an export rate of 30%.
Alarko’s micro granule fertilizers can reduce agricultural production costs by up to 10 times.
Palmira Agro’s fertilizers are produced by downsizing traditional fertilizers and adding secondary nutrients and trace elements. These innovative products ensure that plants receive the right amount of nutrients at the right time. The next-generation micro granule fertilizers not only offer farmers high product and operational efficiency but also provide significant economic savings. With the use of micro granule fertilizers, farmers can reduce traditional fertilizer use by up to 10 times per acre, lowering transportation, storage, labor, fuel, and time costs, and cutting production expenses by up to 10 times.
Alarko Agriculture Group Contributes to Access to Safe Food with Climate and Eco-Friendly Production
As the climate crisis, loss of biodiversity, water scarcity, and depletion of soil resources increasingly necessitate more efficient agricultural production, and demand for safe food rises, Palmira Agro’s micro granule fertilizer factory stands out with its products that enhance productivity and its eco-friendly technologies.
In traditional agriculture, base fertilizers are heavily used to increase yield, which can significantly damage the organic structure of the soil and underground water resources. Thanks to advanced technology, micro granule fertilizers, which range in size from 0.5mm to 1.2mm and are applied very close to the seed, dissolve more rapidly in the soil during the planting process due to their homogeneous structure, allowing plants to absorb them faster. These fertilizers make it easier for plants to access nutrients and provide the essential resources they need when they need them most. This helps crops, which require constant energy for germination, root formation, and healthy stem growth, to use energy more efficiently, thus improving both yield and quality.
Thanks to the hybrid CE-certified eco-friendly technologies implemented in Palmira Agro’s factory, energy consumption is reduced by 65% and water usage by 70%. The factory, which meets 35% of its energy needs through a 1,200 kWp solar energy system, also contributes to Alarko Holding’s 2050 Net-Zero emissions target by reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 65%.
